Visit to the Eoin Turner Workshop

A Visit to an Artist's Workshop After a short bus journey to Glanmire, we arrived at Eoin's Workshop. We knew that Lorraine and Eoin Turner were artists but we were never too sure what exactly they did. Our heads turned as we entered the studio, taking in all the colours, shapes and beauty.  Both Lorraine and Eoin explained to us different methods used to create pieces. It was a real eye-opener. Then the class were involved with making a piece for the school using our hand-prints. We can't wait to see the outcome! A big thanks to Lorraine for the tasty treats during our visit, we had a great morning.

Well Done Anouk!!

Cork Heritage Project A huge congratulations to Anouk Templin in Sixth Class who placed first in the Cork Heritage Project 2019/2020 competition. Her project was about the Everyman Palace Theatre on MacCurtain Street. Not only did she complete a very detailed and accurate project but she also built an extraordinary rotating model.  There was an awards ceremony in the City Hall last week where Anouk was presented with an award from the Lord Mayor. She addressed the audience and spoke for two minutes about her project.  Comhghairdeas Anouk! We are very proud of you.

Engineering Planes Today we built planes in school using card. It’s a balancing act! As with real airplanes there are 4 main forces, called aerodynamic forces, that enable a paper/cardboard plane to stay in the air: Force Description Thrust when you throw the plane forward  Lift is a force that acts on the wings and helps the plane to move up. Big wings increase lift  Gravity is the force that pulls the plane down. The right materials can create a lighter aircraft that stays up longer.  Drag (caused by the tail) is the opposite of thrust and it makes the plane slow down  http://www.engineersweek.ie/schools/
