Wonderful Windmills

Image
Our Windmills  Written by Mia and her Pod! Our task was to construct a windmill out of recyclable materials. We planned our ideas in pairs. Everyone had a week to gather materials and draw up plans. When everyone had their materials to hand, we got to work and started building our windmills. It took a while to finish our windmills, but it was worth the wait as they looked great. We tested them outside, unfortunately they didn't all work. We adjusted them as we saw our mistakes and why they weren't spinning. We as a class loved this windmill project, we are learning a lot of new skills.

Our Board Games

Our Board Games     By Theo and his pod!   This week we designed board games in pairs at school. We drew them, planning what they would look like. Then we took our plans home, making them come to life.   The main focus of the lesson was making conditional statements. We outlined these in the rules of our games.   I think that this was a great way to have fun with family and friends, playing the board games that each of us constructed. We learned by failing, making improvements and fixing them.     Here are some of us playing our amazing board games.

Space Week

Space Week Written by Sam Jordan and edited by fifth and sixth classes Stormtrooper speaking Irish!!   On the 12th of October, we had the privilege to speak with a retired ESA worker, Juan Miro, who showed us an interesting presentation on Space. We were in contact via Skype.   Firstly, we learned a lot about Juan's career, and how he was involved in the Rosetta Mission. The Rosetta Mission was the sending of the Rosetta Spacecraft, along with its lander, Philae, to research the Comet known by scientists as 67P. This mission was highly publicised and it was very interesting to meet even just one of the people behind it.   We also learned some very interesting facts, like that there are caves and caverns beneath the surface of the moon. As well we discovered that Mars actually used to have an atmosphere, but something happened and it disappeared. Next we had a look at some Exoplanets that have potential to sustain life.   After the presentation, there

Our Free Writing

We were given this first paragraph and were told to finish the story. These are some of our pieces.  "I stood on the high, rocky outcrop and gazed down at the sweltering plain below me. The scene was breathtakingly beautiful. A sea of sand spread out and reached as far as the eye could see. The sky above was a deep, rich blue. I could not stay and enjoy this. My friends were out there somewhere and I had to find them. It had been an hour since I had received that one faint radio distress call, then silence. Time was of the essence." A Quest in the Desert Francis (5 th Class) I bolted from the high rock, dusty sand filled my eyes heat, struck me like a bolt fire but I did not care. Their distress call, from the inner south, awoke me. I ran and ran and I suddenly felt stone hammer me in the chest, all of a sudden the sandstorm subsided. A towering desert temple filled with artefacts of ancient times. It drew me in like zombies to brains, I couldn’t help but open the migh

Leonardo da Vinci

We have been learning about Leonardo da Vinci. In drama, we recreated his famous painting, "Virgin of the Rocks." Here we are in action! Some of us worked as directors, giving instructions to classmates- telling then how to pose.
